Run Forrest, Run...

We just spent a week touring good old Savannah Georgia. There was a ton of history there and we enjoyed a trolley ride through the historic district of downtown Savannah. The city has done a great job of restoring a lot of the old historic buildings and making them accessible to the public. Before the tours I didn't realize that Savannah was one of the very few cities Sherman didn't burn to the ground on his march thru the South.

One of the more notable films shot here was Forrest Gump. The picture of the church steeple is from one of the opening scenes where a feather is dropping to the ground.

Of course while in Savannah you have to eat at Paula Deens' restaurant,  Lady and Sons. We enjoyed an excellent good old fashioned southern fried chicken dinner and for desert a piece of Paula Deens' Gooey butter cake. Good stuff!!

To complete our tour of the area we took a self guided trip around Fort McAllister. It was the last battle for Sherman before he took Savannah (it wasn't much of a battle as the confederates were outnumbered like 25 to 1)  It was still in remarkable good shape. I guess it must be another one of those old geezer things, but we are really starting to enjoy touring old forts and battlefields.

On to Mexico Beach and some fishing.
