Lesson #13: Never guess, ALWAYS know for sure.

So as we left Myrtle Beach and headed for Savannah, I decided that I would choose my own route and ignore the route on my GPS. (Bad idea) After traveling the wrong direction long enough (yes the wife tried to warn me and no I didn't listen) to noticed the billboards advertising places that we were just at, I decided a change of course was required. I picked what looked like a good spot to turn around in and get headed in the right direction (when you're pulling a 38 foot camper you can't just pull in anywhere). As I  completed my turn around I came to a bunch of low hanging tree limbs. (they didn't look very big or menacing) After GUESSING that I had enough clearance, I went for it. (another bad idea) So we finally get going the right direction and cruised down I95 for a couple of hours to a rest stop. I'm sitting in the truck while Sheila goes into the camper to get us a pop, when I get a phone call from her. She tells me “you gotta come see this”. From inside the camper you could see clear blue shy from where my vent covers used to be. (thankfully it wasn't raining). Further inspection of the camper from the outside revealed that of course the air conditioner also took a beating. They have a protective cover around them but it was nowhere to be seen. (I'm sure it's in the parking lot that I chose to turn around in and some poor guy is wondering what knucklehead left it there) I never would have guessed that such small limbs could cause so much damage but it's just another in the many lessons that I've learned in the last few years.

Fortunately the claims representative for Progressive was a ton of help. He arranged to have everything repaired at the campground in Savannah vice having to haul it somewhere. Believe me, that made our lives a whole lot easier.

Talk about a small world. Here we are in Savanna Georgia having camper repairs done and the guy that shows up was born and raised in my small hometown of Girard, PA. What are the odds of that happening?

  1. Ron says he's taking stock of his OLDER brothers RV "adventures" so that he won't add them to our experiences. THANKS for saving us alot of future mishaps, and insurance woes....
