We really enjoyed our stay at myrtle beach travel park. It's a great campground (they are called RV resorts now) that has an indoor pool, an outdoor pool and a lazy river. We are eight campsites from the beach and could hear the waves washing ashore at night. Love that sound. As soon as Sheila smelled the saltwater she insisted on the daily routine of walking thousands of miles on the beach so I figure I've gotten my years worth of exercise in this week.
Sheila and I hopped on a party type charter fishing boat to see if we could catch our dinner. The weather was perfect and being on the water was great and we caught a lot of fish (mostly black bass). Unfortunately, none of them were big enough to keep (that Teribery charter boat curse is still on) so went with plan B for dinner, chili dogs.
On the dock next to the charter boat was a shrimp boat dock and they were selling fresh caught shrimp that were huge so we stocked up and had a great shrimp spaghetti dinner. If we lived near here, shrimp would be a large part of our diet. GOOD STUFF.
We also toured the battleship, North Carolina and thoroughly enjoyed that tour (yes I threw a hissey fit and told the wife it was a dumb idea when she signed us up and no I haven't told her she was right or apologized yet). As soon as you stepped aboard you could tell you were on a Navy vessel just by the smell, and of course, the never ending gray paint. I was impressed with the engine room as it reminded me me an awful lot of the first Navy ship I was on, the good old USS Sierra, AD-18. I think she was built in about the same era. One of the things that especially impressed us was that every area of the ship had notes from crew members that served aboard the North Carolina describing their memories of the ship when they served. It was pretty neat to read how they felt about their ship during WWII. It served in every major campaign of WWII and only suffered ten casualties. That's a pretty impressive record.
We really enjoyed Myrtle Beach, now it's on to Savannah Georgia.
