Like a kid in a candy store

Since arriving in Maine, we have been doing all the typical touristy stuff. We spend most of the day driving around checking out lighthouses and enjoying the New England coast line. It's pretty neat watching all of the working boat traffic out in the harbor (ferries, lobster boats and fishing trawlers).

During one of our trips to Portland we found a seafood store on one of the piers. As seafood shops go, this place is tops. Live lobster for $3.99/lb, clams, mussels and numerous kinds of fresh fish. We watched them cutting up a 119 pound swordfish as we ordered our swordfish steaks. They even ship in Gulf Coast shrimp but I'm going to wait till we get to Crystal River and get the fresh stuff. This is definitely my idea of a great store.

The typical seafood restaurant here is pretty casual and fun to eat at. At most of them you order your food at a window and then go outside and eat a picnic table. We have had lobster in some way everyday since we got here and had lobster stew for the first time for dinner tonight, GOOD STUFF. We are getting pretty good at cooking lobsters and our lobster roll (lobster meat with lettuce, tomato and mayo on a toasted hot dog bun) is as good as or better than anything that we have gotten locally (we have tried them in a couple of different places) but are planning to hit several more restaurants in the area. You can get them everywhere here, they even sell them in little hot dog style stands at the malls.
