Monkey Island

Had a great kayak trip today on the homosassa river. One of the neat sights was monkey island. Not sure how they got there but now they've got their own island that looks pretty cool.

We are getting slightly better at the fishing thing. We caught a ton of mangrove snappers, which they say are good to eat; paddled to a neat little restaurant for lunch, then went back for some more fishing on the river. The weather was terrific, the fish were biting, and to top it off manatee were cruising past us all day long. These kind of days are exactly what retirement is supposed to be like.

My knife wielding skills were put to the test while cleaning the fish and the snappers didn't go down without a struggle as I managed to cut myself twice while cleaning them. I am glad we didn't keep any more fish or my fingers wouldn't have survived, not to mention the blood loss. Sheila didn't say anything but she had that "you're a complete doofus" look as she went for the band aids. All in all, I guess a refresher course in first aid was worth it for a fish dinner. We will cook them up when Rosie and John, (they caught a lot of the fish), can make it for lunch and we will let you know how tasty they were. My next fishing goal is to catch a redfish and a mongo sea trout.

The golfing has also picked up with the good weather. Sheila and I went to a par 3 course last week and had a great time. I have been managing to get out at least once a week hoping someday my game will actually improve but so far I am still pretty much a complete hacker. I plan on getting enough practice in to kick Dustin's butt when I get home as it's about the only thing left I can still beat him at (maybe).

  1. Ohhh, so that's why you teach me golf, you want to be better than me. JK! It sounds like you had a fun day. I love the part about seeing the manatees and stopping for lunch. I hope you like the fish...gross.
