It's hard to believe two years have passed since we began this trip. Along the way we have visited some incredible places and made some great new friends. Now it's time to begin our third year, so here we go as we slowly wander toward Florida.
Our first stop was Erie, PA. We had a good time visiting family (thanks for the great dinner Mary B) and even picked up a new favorite saying from from my sisters granddaughter; “that's just straight up whacked”.
While in Erie we took a sunset cruise on one of the tall ships, the Lynx. We watched a beautiful sunset and spent time listening to the crew tell us about their shipboard life. I should have gone to sea on something more like a tall ship instead of submarines as the crew seemed to enjoy their travels around the world. As luck would have it, the annual steelhead trout run started while we were there and I managed to catch my limit of steelhead and perch. It was a ton of fun doing both but catching those steelhead was a special treat.

The next stop was Raystown Lake Resort where we met up with my brother Ron, his wife Nancy and her sister Chris. This was truly one of most most scenic waterfront campgrounds that we have stayed at. Everywhere you look, you get a gorgeous view of the Pennsylvania mountains dropping down to the waterfront. Ron and I did a lot of fishing but had very little luck. Most of the fish we caught (crappie, perch, pumpkinseeds) were really small, about the right size for bait in Mexico Beach. If you're looking for a camping spot, cabin or lodge room near State College, Pennsylvania put this place on top of your list. (A word of caution though, if you stay here, watch out for pirates. Near as I can tell it was pirates that kept putting Steelers flags on my flagpole)
One of the neat little side trips near Raystown Lake is Lincoln Caverns. It's only about fifteen minutes away and some of the sights rivaled what we saw in Mammoth Caves, Kentucky. For a neat look at a part of Pennsylvania be sure to check this place out.
First week of fun fall camping accomplished in a beautiful place!. We had a great time, even if the fishing was lousy! See ya in a day or two up near Baltimore--lets have fun at the Orioles & Tigers final games of the BB season!
