Just when I thought I knew what I was doing.......

We had two really easy of driving from Gulf Shores to Mammoth Caves and things were going great. We got to our campsite here at Mammoth Caves and started to set up the camper and sure enough things started to go downhill. As we started to disconnect the truck from the camper we discovered that the stabilizing jacks wouldn't work and I started searching everywhere for a blown fuse or tripped circuit breaker but, to no avail. We broke out the hand crank and got the camper disconnected (It wasn't a huge pain but definitely hard work). A quick tour around the camper revealed that the camper was not even close to being level side to side. This meant once again breaking out the hand crank and getting to work. After reconnecting the camper and moving it off the road we once again got a workout with the hand crank and disconnected the camper for the second time(by this time I was getting a little bit ornery).  The next step in this procedure is put the camper slides out so we start this evolution only to discover that the pole supporting the water connection was in the way of the kitchen slide. Yup, you guessed it, out comes the hand crank and we went through the whole drill one more time.(Once wasn't too bad, twice was kind of a pain, three times was brutal) Just to add to the excitement it started to rain cats and dogs.  During all of this we had to level the camper numerous times and at one point I forgot to remove a wheel chock while moving the camper and destroyed it.  There was certainly no joy in the Teribery camper at this point. This was undoubtedly the worst job of setting up a camper I have ever done but at least we finally got thru it. Once things got set up, I took that mandatory retirement nap and with a fresh outlook, I once again pursued the problem with the jacks. As luck would have it, this time I managed to find the blown fuse and the camper is once gain back to a fully operational status.

We celebrated our minor success by taking a tour of the Kentucky countryside. The drive was gorgeous and we even  spotted several wild turkeys during the trip.I  topped it off with a McDonald's mocha frappĂ© and it looks like things are getting back to normal around here.

  1. I'm glad you FINALLY found the problem. Hang in there . . . it will all work out! Those Mocha Frappe's will cure anything!! Sorry I got you started on them. I'm trying to quit . . . again! It has been one day since I had one!! :o)

  2. Sounds like an unfortunate case we both know as the "Teribery Curse"... either we have it with our RV, or you have it with yours... Just that lately it's been all yours....so glad last season's slideout motor replacement and this season's powerjack were easily resolved for us.Hand cranking those things are worth more than any Frappe's... good luck with travels to Shipshewana and onward north back to Michigan.!!
