What was I thinking?

Dustin and MJ came down for a week. I thought it would be a good idea to show Dustin how good the fishing was in Florida so I forked out $400 and booked a charter trip. The charter captain told me to meet him at the bait shop at 9:00. When we drove up to the boat ramp there was a twelve foot aluminum boat with about a dozen fishing poles mounted to it. I looked at Dustin and said OMG what have I gotten into. Fortunately that wasn't our charter boat. We found our captain and took off. The temp was okay, about 62, it was a bright sunny day and it should have been a great day for fishing. However, somebody forgot to tell the fish how things were supposed to go. We fished hard all day and never even got a bite, not a single bite. We saw about fifty or sixty redfish but not a one of them was the least bit hungry. The captain said it was the worst day of fishing he ever had. I of course reminded him that Florida state law requires charter boat captains that don't catch any fish are required to swim back to the boat dock. He didn't see it that way. (That good old Teribery luck was there in full force) That whole thing just reinforced my belief that hiring a private charter is just plain goofy. What was I thinking. (By the way, I did not get any refund)

After that we went back to what I know best, kayak fishing. We caught some fish and Sheila had a ball playing with the manatees. In the picture a baby manatee is floating upside down so Sheila can rub his belly. Then momma cruised over and let Sheila rub her nose. It was pretty neat. (Thanks to Rosie for getting the picture)

Sheila and I sat another record, the worlds shortest careers. After working as work campers for only two weeks the campground went out of business and was bought out by the guy that originally owned this place. It probably wasn't all Sheila's fault but it does make you wonder. We are not sure yet what this means as far as camping here in the future but the next couple of weeks should prove to be interesting.

  2. That would have been so cool to rub a manatee's belly!! Sounds like a great day. I hope the campground stuff settles down, and that you still enjoy it there.
