Shop with a Cop

Last night was shop with a cop here in Inverness, Florida. It's a program where sheriffs take kids Christmas shopping at Walmart and its paid for by money raised by the deputies. In addition there was a super raffle for the kids that included prizes of bicycles and Wii games. The kids were having a ball. You should have seen the look on their faces as well as the deputies. Our minor role in all of this was to escort McGruff the crime dog. One of our friends here (McGruff has to remain anonymous) loves to dress up in the McGruff suit and attend functions like this. Our job was just to escort good old McGruff and make sure he (or she) didn't have any problems due to limited visibility or unruly kids. It was an absolute hoot to watch the reaction of the kids (and adults) as we made our rounds of Walmart. A lot of the kids smiled , waved and gave McGruff a big thumbs up. One especially cute little girl kept hiding her eyes every time McGruff walked by so the last time McGruff walked past her, McGruff covered his his eyes and everybody cracked up. Kind of a cool thing to watch just before Christmas. Hats off to the Sheriff, his deputies, and McGruff for making Christmas special for a group of very fortunate kids in Inverness.

  2. Glad you had a fun holiday outing ! The Sheriff's do the same thing here in our County. And guess what? We had "too much snow" last Saturday here in VA, and they had to "reschedule" our town's annual Christmas Parade for upcoming weekend... what the?? It was mostly all melted away in 2 days.. but hey, it made it feel seasonal! Ho Ho HO!
