Dustin and MJ have been telling us for years that drinks at Sonic are the best. We finally broke down and tried a banana cream shake. They were right. Two thumbs up for shakes at Sonic (definitely not on the Atkins approved food list).
So here we are in Outer Banks, NC. My brother Ron who is a Steelers fan (mom must have dropped him a lot when he was a baby) and I decided to watch the Browns-Steelers game at a local sports bar. The place was pretty full and the crazy part was that 95% of the people there, were wearing Browns or Steelers clothes (didn't see a Panther fan anywhere). Who would have thought that the Browns-Steelers game would be such a big deal down here. It was a blast just watching the crowd watch the game as there was a lot of bantering back and forth. Unfortunately the good old Browns once again let me down and as usual we are headed for another losing season. It's been so long since they were good that I have almost forgotten what it's like to see them consistently play good football.
Ron's fishing lessons are starting to pay off. The weather wasn't very cooperative but we did manage to catch some bluefish, croakers, mullets and skates. Ron did most of the catching but I did manage to pick up a few fish and have officially broken the fishing curse here.
Fishing is the most popular sport down here but it is closely followed by any activity that uses wind power; kite boarding, sail boarding, hang gliding and kite flying. I'm a bit too old and out of shape for the first three but couldn't resist the whole kite flying idea. At one of the numerous kite shops here I couldn't resist and bought a new kite(Sheila says it's my Christmas gift but I figure it's more like Sheila's anniversary gift). It's a stunt wing kite and flys like a champ. With a little practice I'll be doing stunt maneuvers like a pro.
The lighthouse tour is continuing and we checked out the Bodie Island lighthouse today. It is strange because it is on the other side of the highway from the ocean. Pretty neat.
We just found out one of our neighbors down the street is a Browns fan. What has this world come to?
ReplyDeleteThe kite thing sounds cool. I remember when we used to go to Maumee Bay and fly them...good times!!
The fishing part sounds really boring, especially catching mullets and skates. Why would you want bad hair cuts and outdated foot wear?
As usual I am glad you are still having fun. As usual we miss you. After the incident last week, there will be no kite boarding for you mister!
Love ya,
Lynn
Sure, waited until we LEFT to have the weather get nice... why Hatteras always has as storm for R&N to find RV leaks in, is almost like a routine now... Hey, aren't you glad Nan had Ron pull into the Sonic & add those 1000's of calories to all 4 us, and then stop at the Kitty Hawk Kites for your stunt kite purchase. WE had a Good time despite, bad weather & not so good fishing, and those darn "stickers" that luv our feet..... Next year???
