Leson #12 (Learn from the past)

We had a beautiful day on the water at Presque Isle State Park here in Erie, PA. Presque Isle is where Admiral Perry built his Great Lakes fleet for the war of 1812. He found that the natural shelter here was great and there were sufficient resources available to build his ships. One thing that the locals forgot to tell him was that the winters here are absolutely horrid. After spending the winter here the place was aptly renamed Misery Bay. Thus lesson #12: Come to Presque Isle and enjoy the miles of great beaches and warm water BUT come winter time head South, preferably Crystal River, cause winters here are brutal.

It seems that my darling sister has developed an infatuation for hazy smoke stacks. So, from here on in I will do a much better job of photographing them as we continue our travels.

One more advantage of spending time with family is getting a stash of home grown veggies. Thanks to Cliff and Kathy we have fresh picked green beans and zucchini squash to eat. Cliff has also been supplying Sheila with fresh cut flowers to keep our camper looking bright and cheery.
Hmmm, maybe we should convince John and Rosie (in Crystal River) to plant a garden and we could eat fresh veggies year round.

You gotta love this state. You can't purchase beer in a grocery store, you have to go to a "beer distributors" but a lot of them are drive-thru so you don't even have to leave your car when you get there.

  2. Hey don't blame me! You did say they looked pretty, and there were plenty of witnesses. Plus this dad's blog, I had nothing to do with it! But I did laugh really hard when I read it!
