The monsoon rains have ended and we are getting out and about. We decided it was time to put Ron's fishing lessons to the test. After buying a little equipment we took our first shot at surf fishing. On our first cast Sheila caught two catfish at once (yes as usual, she ended up catching more fish than me). We ended up catching about a dozen catfish and really enjoyed both the fishing and watching the sunset. Whiting are supposed to be moving into the area as well as Pompano, and both are supposed to make tasty dinners, so we will keep at it until we catch at least one dinner.
There are two Air Force bases and Pensacola Naval Air Station nearby. During the day there is quite a bit of jet traffic which can be noisy but it's worth it to watch fighter jets flying by on a regular basis. I'm not a plane buff but the sight of a fighter jet flying low and fast is pretty darned cool.
I hear sand fleas are good bait for the pompano. Ask around, and let me know. Oh, and by the way.... Soft Shell Crab Sandwiches are the best! I've been enjoying them now for years here in VA --guess little bro beat you to that tasty item.... try a little hot sauce on them too. Extra good!
ReplyDeleteButch, Butch, Butch... just ask Ron about me fishing with him.... I always catch the bigger & better & more than him! He wouldn't let me fish with you two because he didn't want to get showed up. I think fish like us Teribery women better... we "don't know what we are doing" so the dumb fish just feel sorry for us & jump on the hooks!Way to go Sheila!
ReplyDeleteMy daughter Melissa caught 3 pompano when she was in Palm City a month ago. She said they were yummy! Good luck! - Oh... as to the rain... be thankful it wasn't the 4 inches we got Sunday night/Monday morning. Where the heck is spring???
