Risk vs Reward

In spite of all my training that always had us evaluate the risk of doing something against the reward of getting that task done, I still managed to screw it up. A friend at the campground needed help getting his camper out of storage and setting it up here at the campground so I volunteered. I figured "what the heck", I can handle that without getting into too much trouble. WRONG!! Without going into all of the boring details I managed to break the back window out of my pickup while backing up his 5th wheel. If I had taken the time to do it right (I was in a hurry to get done and move on to some serious fishing) by merely adjusting my hitch for his size camper everything would have been fine. Fortunately the deductible was low and they fixed it right at our campsite so it didn't turn out to be too disastrous. The old saying of "haste makes waste" is definitely true.

On a more positive note, once I got done destroying my back window, we hit the water for some serious kayak fishing and had a ball. We caught three redfish and lost a couple of others. We just had a super day on the water. It's kind of hard to describe how peaceful and relaxing it is cruising along in a kayak but trust me it's awesome.

For my next trick I took our truck into the shop for a new set of brakes. The brake job was estimated at $600 which I thought was totally absurd so I waited until the brakes were repaired then traded it in on a new truck instead of paying for the brake job. I thought it was a brilliant idea, but I can tell Sheila still doesn't quite agree with the logic behind it all. The way I figure it, I not only saved money on the brake job but I also got Sheila a great Christmas gift.
