Still playing tourist

Okay, here is today's quiz.

Q. What city is the oldest continuously occupied city in the United States?
A. St. Augustine Florida (Okay, who got it right?)

This place was settled long before both Jamestown and Plymouth. Guess I missed that in history class. We spent two days exploring the sights there and just scratched the surface. Some of the highlights were; the country's oldest house, the country's oldest school, a super lighthouse that you could actually walk to the top in (219 stairs and my legs are still sore), and of course there was the fountain of youth. The oldest school was the original building, not a re-creation, so it was pretty neat to see how things were constructed over a hundred years ago.

There was also a fun little tour of a jail that was used from the late 1800's until 1953. They used characters to play the part of prisoners from back in the day and it was interesting to see how things were back then (definitely a tough life).

The fountain of youth was a fun little stop and I kept drinking extra water just in case it works but my dear wife says it's hopeless and told me "once an old geezer, always an old geezer".

If we come back to this part of the state we will certainly do more exploring here as this is really a neat little city.
