Lesson #10: When you're towing a camper, stick to major highways.
After the painful trip to Cooper State Park I fired my navigator (Sheila) and put Carmin (my GPS) in charge of mapping my travel paths. BIG MISTAKE. The drive from Nashville was horrible. We spent just about the whole day going up and down mountains and dealing with 25mph S curves the whole time. Then, just to keep things interesting there was was a never ending stream of gravel haulers riding as close to my bumper as possible, because they were obviously enjoying the drive whereas I wanted to be anyplace but on Rt 160 heading for Branson. I am trying to rehire my old navigator but she insists that I admit I was wrong (not happening) and wants double the pay (that's easy, 2 x nothing is nothing).
The stop at Nashville was not very noteworthy. The campground was in a flightpath for the airport and the 4:30 flights woke me up. Sheila says the flights were going all night long so she didn't sleep much either. We probably should have visited Graceland while we there but chose to head for Branson instead (sorry Rosie).
We did manage to survive the drive and arrived at ABC (Americas Best Campground, as I recall Mike Hall told me about this place and he was right, this is a good place to stay) The staff here was extremely friendly and helpful. The first site they assigned us to just wouldn't work. I couldn't get the camper level no matter how hard I tried so we asked for a new site and got one with no fuss and muss. We are settled in and are looking forward to seeing the shows this week.
We went to our first show today, The Dolly Parton Dixie Stampede. we thoroughly enjoyed the show and the dinner was excellent. It reminded me a lot of Medieval Times in Florida but with a lot more audience participation. Tomorrow we are going to the Comedy Jamboree and we headed to the Yakov Smirnoff show on Sunday. After that we haven't finalized the shows we plan on attending. There are at least 50 different shows here to see so try to figure out which ones we really want to see is mind boggling.
