As you can see by the temperature, things are certainly heating up down here. For the first time, the boss (Sheila) turned on the air conditioner. As for me, I have been taking all of the appropriate measures to prevent myself from becoming dehydrated during this heat wave. When things get this hot my plan of action is to drink large quantities ice cold beer while sitting in a reclined position. So far this has been extremely effective and my body has been responding well to the treatment. One minor side affect of this treatment plan is drowsiness but a quick nap seems to address that quite nicely.
We took a little day trip down to the sponge docks at Tarpon Springs and thoroughly enjoyed learning about the whole sponge gathering process. The industry was started by the Greeks in the Tarpon Springs area and the area is still known as Greektown. For those of you familiar with Greektown in Detroit, it's very similar. There are dozens of Greek restaurants and bakeries, so you could smell the delicious food everywhere. Many of them have outside tables which are perfect for this time of the year. Unfortunately, none of the restaurants had soft shell crabs on the menu so we came back to Crystal River for one last crab dinner. There are also a couple of dozen shops selling sponges of all kinds. I didn't realize that there were five different kinds of usable sponges that can be used for various cleaning chores so it was kind of neat to see all of the different displays. If any of you make it down here to visit next year, it will certainly be one of the places we will take you.
