Yet another lesson

Lesson #3: Listen to the wife (at least part of the time).
Sheila warned me last night to disconnect the water line because it was so cold, but no, I knew better and left it hooked up. Of course it froze solid during the night. Fortunately we had plenty of water in our holding tanks and none of the pipes broke so there was no damage done. On the down side, I will have to live with some well deserved "I told you" so's.

First Landing State Park gets a big thumbs up from both of us. There are lots of beach front camp sites, trails through the cypress trees, and miles of beachfront to walk. We started to collect some beach glass so we should have a pretty good stash by the time we get back up north.

MJ and Rosie, thought you might be interested in the world's largest S'more. Wonder how long it would take Rosie to finish it off.

The main purpose of stopping in Norfolk was to visit with some old friends, Jim and Rachel. Jim and I went to Machinist Mate A school together and then we were both stationed aboard the USS Sierra AD18 here in Norfolk. We later ended up being stationed on submarines in Groton Connecticut at the same time. It was very good seeing them again. Kind of funny how time flies by and you never get to the things you wanted to do. This was one of those things, so I'm glad we got to it. As an added bonus Rachel's mom and dad live in Norfolk. "Mom" is in the hospital undergoing hip surgery so we didn't get to spend much time with her but we spent some time with "Pops". He is a retired Sergent Major in the Marine Corps and all around one of the finest guys I have ever met. I really enjoyed the time we got to spend together. I'm still trying to convince him that the Navy is a far superior service but he's convinced the USMC is the best there is. I am not sure if he'll ever come around.

  1. I laughed hard at the Roaie comment! I am so glad you got the chance to visit with some friends. I have always wanted to collect beach glass, that sounds so pretty. Sending good luck and more fun adventures!

  2. It sure was great seeing you two again. Sorry we didn't get to do anything but visit the hospital and sit around the house. I really appreciate all the support during my mother's wait for surgery. I know my dad really enjoyed talking to "Butch". I sure hope you come back this way in the spring. I promise the weather will be warmer if you wait until May or June.
    Talk to you soon.
